Doctorate Research: Heritage, Personalization, and Innovation in Jewelry Design.

Abstract:

This research study explores the evolution and future directions of jewelry design as both an artistic and academic discipline. Drawing on historical foundations, cultural symbolism, and design philosophies, it investigates how heritage, personalization, sustainability, and technology shape the luxury jewelry industry. Methodologically, the study applies a qualitative approach that integrates archival research, designer interviews, consumer surveys, and case studies of both established houses (Cartier, Bulgari, Tiffany & Co.) and emerging players (GiftstoRemember.co, Jiries y Miguel). Findings reveal that consumers increasingly value jewelry not only for its material beauty but also for its cultural narratives, ethical sourcing, and digital engagement. Personalization, emotional storytelling, and experiential branding are identified as new standards of luxury, while technologies such as CAD, AR, and blockchain redefine authenticity and consumer trust. The study concludes that future jewelry design must harmonize tradition with innovation, positioning storytelling and responsibility as central to competitive advantage
