Manopause™: Male Menopause, Mid-life Crisis, Andropause

Abstract:

This research study explores the phenomenon of andropause, often referred to as “male menopause” or “manopause,” and its impact on men’s physical, psychological, and emotional well-being. While menopause in women is widely recognized, andropause remains less understood, though it presents comparable challenges such as hormonal decline, fatigue, irritability, loss of libido, and changes in mood and body composition. The study analyzes clinical perspectives, historical debates, and current medical approaches, aiming to clarify misconceptions and provide a scientific basis for understanding this transitional stage in men’s lives. It highlights the importance of early detection, lifestyle interventions, and medical treatment when necessary, stressing the need for more awareness and research. By recognizing andropause as a legitimate condition rather than dismissing it as a cultural myth, the paper advocates for better education, holistic health programs, and support systems to improve men’s quality of life during midlife transitions.
